   At Musselman Funeral Home & Cremation Services our service to families does not end at the conclusion of the funeral or memorial service. We provide follow up care for survivors including bereavement and estate settling education opportunities.

AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) - For those age 50 years and older. Volunteer opportunities available. Local chapters provide social activities, trips and excursions, community service projects and opportunities to meet new people who share similar interests and lifestyles. The Alzheimer's Association, South Central Pennsylvania Chapter - Organization providing support for families of Alzheimer's patients through information, educational seminars, support groups and referral for bereaved. Apprise - Pennsylvania Department of Aging Health Insurance Counseling Program for Seniors. Free counseling to people who are 60 and older who have questions about Medicare, Medicare Supplements, Medicaid, Long Term Care Insurance, medical billings, claims and related issues.For more information please contact 888-697-0371 ext. 6110

   

Capital Area Share - A group for  parents experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth or early infant death. Meetings are held the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Seidle Hospital, 120 S. Compassionate Friends, Camp Hill Chapter- Bereavement group for families that have experienced the death of a child. 7PM, the fourth Tuesday of the month. Church of the Good Shepard, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill. Information: 731-0379


Compassionate Friends, Lebanon County- Bereavement group for families that have experienced the death of a child. The fourth Monday of the month, Christ Presbyterian Church, 1300 Maple Street, Lebanon. Call for meeting time: 274-2422.

 

Cumberland County Office of Aging - Offers services, information and referral to county residents age 60 plus who are in  need of assistance. Answers to questions and referral to proper agencies when  necessary. The following services are provided: Adult Day Care, Care Management, Congregate Meal Program, Domiciliary Care, Employment, Newsletter,  Home Chore Service, Home Delivered Meals, Home Support, Legal Services,  Ombudsman, Protective Services, Respite Care, Senior Citizen Centers,  Transportation. Hospice of Central Pennsylvania   Hospice sponsors a number of bereavement programs. Passages, a general grief support group for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Harmony, a program for young widows and widowers dealing with such issues as going back to work, single parenting, dating, etc. Generations is a program for adults who have lost parents.

There are two monthly social groups - Men's Breakfast and Ladies Luncheon.

Growing Through Grief is a six week educational bereavement support series offered twice a year. For information and referral on these programs call 732-1000 and ask for a Bereavement Care Coordinator, Hospice of Central PA, 98 S. Enola Drive, Enola PA  17025


Infant Bereavement - Support group for those who have lost a baby through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or newborn death. 7-9PM, fourth monday of the month, Carlisle Regional Medical Center's Women's Center, 361 Alexander Spring Road, Carlisle. Registration: 960-3415.

Infant Loss support group. 7:00-8:00 pm, third Monday of the month, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center's Women's Health Center, room 206, 670 Cherry Drive, Hershey. No registration neccessary. Information: 531-8123

Healing After Loss - Support group, 6 PM, third Thursday of the month. Compassionate Care Hospice, 100 Brown Street, Suite 23, Middletown. Information: Jennilu at 800-777-5109.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) - Offers victim support services for anyone who has lost a loved one in an alcohol related crash. Contact 657-3911, 2323 Patton Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112

   

New Choices/New Options at PROBE - Provides  free career counseling and free Career Readiness classes for single parents, single pregnant women, and displaced homemakers (those who are separated, widowed, or divorced.) Education and training funds are available for  graduates of Career Readiness Classes. Penn State Cooperative Extension of Dauphin County - Local resource for questions regarding finances, insurance, medical bills, claims, taxes and other issues encountered during settlement of an estate. This is a public service provided by Penn State Cooperative Extension so there is no fee. Pinnacle Health www.pinnaclehealth.org Harrisburg Area - 1-800-889-1098 Pinnacle sponsors a number of bereavement programs.

Avenues: six week, evening group for adults 50+ who have lost a spouse, parent, child or close friend.

Bridges: six week, grief workshop designed to help young widows and widowers and partners explore the grief process and find positive ways to cope following the loss of a life partner.

Pathways: six week, daytime group for adults 50+ and who have lost a spouse, parent, child or close friend.

   

RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of the Capitol Region, Inc.) - a program providing volunteer opportunities for people 55 years and older. Some programs are cross-generational. Widow and Widowers Indeed - Open  to all widows and widowers. Holds monthly luncheons on the 2nd Saturday of each month at Christ Community Church, Also participate in monthly trips and other special events. The YMCA - It is the policy of the  Harrisburg Area YMCA to provide services for any person who desires to participate. The YMCA is a charitable organization and offers financial assistance to the community through a scholarship fund. "Your New Life Alone" - Six part series of newsletters prepared for men and women living alone as a result of life changes such as widowhood, divorce or separation. Understanding feelings of grief, coping day to day, money concerns, loneliness, managing stress, finding support and locating professional help, major decisions, self growth, financial self-defense, economics, rebuilding, intimacy and moving on are all topics touched on by these newsletters. Penn State Cooperative  Extension Service provides this series as a public service. Contact 921-8803.
