Musselman Funeral Home and Cremation Services has a Remembrance Garden as part of our facilities. We installed this garden as a retreat for families we serve. Since gardens have the power to calm and uplift we wanted the garden to be especially meaningful and accessible. The garden's design includes concrete tiles for handicapped accessibility, a stonewall for interest, benchs for comfort and foundation plants. Plants and flowers have held symbolic meanings since ancient times, but it was during the Victorian Era the"Language of Flowers" became popular. To create meaning specifically for a Remembrance Garden we chose plants and flowers that give meaning for those facing the loss of a loved one. We have planted ivy representing attachment and eternal friendship, juniper for confidence and protection, thyme for courage and bravery and daisies for loyal love. There are pansies for both happiness and thoughtfulness in recollection, beds of daylilies which are an emblem for mothers, forget-me-nots for undying memory, grasses for the fleeting quality of life and tulips for happy years and memories. All the plants are properly labeled with names and meaning so families will understand their symbolism. We look forward to seeing how the Remembrance Garden evolves and hope it provides peace and comfort to families. For a more expanded list of the meanings of flowers and plants please continue on this page. < |
