Frank M. Thurman Jr.

Frank M. Thurman Jr. 98 of, Camp Hill passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus Christ on January 30, 2025 at the Legend of Silver Creek, Mechanicsburg surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born on September 2, 1926 in Gulfport Mississippi and was son to the late Frank M. Thurman Sr. and Alva (Chennault) Thurman. Frank met and married the love of his life Nell G. Gruiff in Washington D.C. and moved to Camp Hill to take care of Nell's mother. Nell passed in February of 2009. Frank was a true servant of God and lovingly cared for his wife and several of her brothers and sisters during their times of sickness and need. He also enjoyed helping others over the years and was always available to take someone to an appointment, just out for a drive or whatever the need. Frank served in the U.S. Army during the end of World War II (Italy and New York, including as a member of the Funeral Detail) and during the Korean Conflict (Japan). He was a member of Discover Church of Camp Hill, The American Legion of New Cumberland and The Chenault Family National Association. Frank retired from Letterkenny Army Depot as an Emergency Operations Planner for the former DESCOM command. Surviving are his children, a son; Frank D. Thurman and his wife Kim A., grandchildren, Samantha P. Thurman (significant other Garrett), Joshua P. Thurman all of New Jersey; a daughter, Susan J. Thurman of New Cumberland; 2 nieces and a nephew and their families; his friends and neighbors in Camp Hill and New Cumberland; his family at Discover Church and his four-legged family and friends. Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, travel (he made it all of the Lower 48 states), math, cards, pool and sports. Early in his life, he was a "card and pool shark" but gave that up when he moved to Washington. He was a talented athlete, excelling at golf and tennis. He also had a competitive streak and thoroughly enjoyed beating his friends and family in pool, cards, golf or any activity that they may be doing. In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by a still-born child; brothers, Theodore, Comilus, Oliver, Louie; sisters, Juanita and Betty Sue. We would like to thank the staff at Legend and Residential Hospice for providing outstanding care, support, compassion, kindness, friendship and laughter during his stay. You touched our hearts. Funeral services will be held on February 14, 2025 at 10:30 am at Discover Church with a viewing will be held from 09:30 to 10:30 am. Burial with Full Military Honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Discover Church 769 Meadow Drive, Camp Hill, PA. 17011, or the American Legion or the charity of ones choosing.
