Bettie Jayne Heycock

August 2, 1925 - September 22, 2020

Bettie Jayne Heycock was called to rest after 95 years of gracious, kind, and loving time, giving selflessly to all who knew her. Final good- byes were said while surrounded by family and friends on September 22, 2020. Bettie was born in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania on August 2, 1925 in a house built by her grandfather. She was the 2nd daughter born to Pauline and William Urell Hamacher. Bettie’s older sister, Louise Falcon, preceded her in death. Bettie grew up in Lemoyne, where she graduated from Lemoyne High School and was a lifetime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bettie was very involved in musical undertakings both in school and at Trinity, excelling as a soloist and at playing the piano as an accompanist. As time went on, Bettie received additional professional vocal training. A talent which she employed to enrich musical performances at local churches and weekly worship services at Trinity. Bettie’s singing career was mostly for the benefit of those around her and for her church. Bettie greatly enjoyed pleasing others through songs and hymns, which she continued to do well into her nineties. Bettie was employed for the majority of her life; taking time off only to be a homemaker, mother, and wife until her children were all enrolled in school. Bettie worked as a secretary to Senator George Wade before her marriage to John “Jack” Heycock, also of Lemoyne. The couple had 3 children, John L., Leisa J. and Jay R., all of whom were with her on her final day. Bettie’s other jobs were mainly in the business profession. She served as the assistant to the president of Greenray Industries in Mechanicsburg, professional secretary at Carlisle Syntec, and spent her final 11 career years working in administration for the foster care program of Diakon Social Services. During her career Bettie received several awards and recognition as an outstanding woman of achievement in the professional business world. During her golden years, while no longer employed professionally, Bettie volunteered her time as a docent, or tour guide, at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence. (Those who knew Bettie secretly believed that she probably provided unsolicited advice to a number of past governors while doing her stint at the Front Street Mansion.) But the crowning achievement of Bettie’s life was always her commitment to raising her family and caring for others. Bettie’s two great loves were her children and her church. Up until her final days, Bettie was actively involved with both. Bettie was always in attendance at her children’s activities throughout their school and college years. She supported their efforts and achievements-including graduations, weddings, baptisms, and other professional happenings. Bettie was never too busy to provide help or advice to any of her children or grandchildren. Bettie supported her church in the same fashion, serving on church council, the Music and Worship committee, helping organize services and special events, and generally being involved in whatever facet of the life of Trinity Lutheran needed attention. Bettie’s involvement with her church was a typical extension of her loving and giving nature. So many have benefited from Bettie’s stewardship to Trinity Lutheran of Lemoyne. Bettie lived a full and rich life throughout her 95 years. She was truly a role model for all who knew her-outspoken, generous, and loving with a unique and infectious sense of humor. Bettie is survived by her children and their families—son John “Lee” Heycock (wife Lisa), grandson the Reverend Ryan R. Heycock, daughter Leisa Campbell, grandson Peter Ryan (wife Alexcys), great-grandson Pete Ryan Jr (RePete), son Jay R. Heycock and grandson Eddie Heycock. A funeral service for Bettie is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran, 509 Hummel Ave., Lemoyne, PA, with Pastor David Schreffler presiding. A Facebook Live stream will also be available on the Church’s Facebook page at the start of the service. Committal will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, New Cumberland, PA immediately following the service. A period of fellowship will follow at Trinity for all who wish to celebrate Bettie’s legacy. Please follow all CDC guidelines of wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church would be gratefully accepted. Musselman Funeral Home is Honored to Serve The Heycock Family, 324 Hummel Ave, Lemoyne, PA 17043.
