David R. Echnoz
April 30, 1946 - April 8, 2021
On April 8, 2021, David Echnoz, loving brother and close friend to many, passed away at the age of 74. David was born on April 30, 1946 in Meadville, PA to Robert and Jeanne Echnoz. He lived in Harrisburg for almost 50 years David graduated from Meadville High School in 1964. That same year he won the Pennsylvania high school championship for speech competition in the category of humorous declamation, for which he credited his 11th grade teacher and beloved forensics coach Mary Cousins. He was also a national merit finalist. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA in 1968. A lover of the performing arts, David was deeply passionate about musical theatre, especially the works of Stephen Sondheim. In pursuance of that passion, he was a dedicated volunteer for Theatre Harrisburg/Harrisburg Community Theatre for more than 25 years, serving on the board of directors and as production chairman for multiple seasons. Among David’s many interests were beautiful gardens (especially Longwood Gardens), interior design and décor. His home was selected to be on the Harrisburg Women’s Christmas House Tour in 1997. Professionally, David worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (now the Department of Human Services) as an assistant director in human resources. As such, he provided training in new software technology for DPW offices throughout the commonwealth. David was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his mother, Jeanne.He is survived by his brother, Dale and sister-in-law Michele Stone of Longmont,CO. There is no funeral service scheduled at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering in the coming months.
