George M. Naylor

October 1, 1931 - March 1, 2020

George M. Naylor of Shiremanstown passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at his home. He was born in Mifflin, PA to the late George M, Sr. and Henrietta (Shirk) Naylor. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Sheerer) Naylor with whom he shared 28 years of marriage. He was the father of Lisa McCarty, wife of Andrew McCarty, and grandfather to Catherine "Katie" McCarty. He is also survived by step-sons Doug Lauver of Omaha, NE, and Dane (husband of Lori) Lauver of Mechanicsburg, and sister, Rosalie Smith of Belleville. Step-grandsons, Alex (husband of Kristin) and Spenser Lauver and step-great-grandson, Paxton Lauver. He was predeceased by his sisters, Jacqueline Naylor and Lois Morton as well as step-daughter Denise Seifert. George was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and Central Penn Business School. He entered the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Korean conflict. He then worked several jobs in the Harrisburg area including positions with TRW, Hempt Brothers, and Pensy Supply. He retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a comptroller after 26 years of service. George was a member of the Order of the Masons, Perseverance Lodge #21. He was also a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Dillsburg American Legion, and the Scottish Rite Consistory. George's true passion was officiating Cumberland Valley sports, including PIAA football, baseball, and basketball at the middle and high school level. He umpired local teener, legion, and some college baseball. He umpired baseball for 34 years, football for 47 years, and basketball for 51 years. He was inducted into the Cumberland Valley Association of Baseball Umpires Hall of Fame in 2008.
