Jean B. Stoner

October 17, 1932 - November 25, 2016

Jean B. Stoner, 84, of New Cumberland, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at West Shore Hospital. Born on October 17, 1932 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Marie (Trimmer) Burkhart. She was a graduate of John Harris High School, class of 1950 and Elizabethtown College, class of 1954. She taught in Harrisburg City schools for 5 years before becoming a homemaker. Jean was a life-long member of the Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren where she held many positions. She volunteered at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home in Palmyra for 35 years in the gift shop acting as a co-manager, and then as a manager. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John D. Stoner. She is survived by two sister-in-laws, cousins, and close friends. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 beginning at 11:00 AM at the Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren, 219 Hummel St., Harrisburg with Pastor Belita Mitchell officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the Memorial Services. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mrs. Stoner’s memory to the Living Witness Fund of the Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren, 219 Hummel St., Harrisburg, PA 17104 or to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, 1200 Grubb Rd., Palmyra, PA 17078.
