Murray (Sonny) W. Sperling Jr, 84, a lifelong resident of Highland Park peacefully passed on Friday, July 21 at West Shore Hospital. He was the son of Murray Sperling Sr & Elsie Van Marter. He is survived by his high school sweetheart & wife of 63 years Rita Mae Wingert Sperling of Highland Park, his son Murray Sperling lll (wife Emilie Tierney) of Camp Hill, his sister Nancy Fairchild (Chester) of Bradenton, Fla, brother in law Kenith Wingert of Harrisburg & sister in law Mary Ann Bixler of Mechanicsburg & numerous nieces & nephews. He was a voracious reader & graduated from Lemoyne High School in 1951, where he participated in football, track & fast cars. A charter member & past president of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Highland Park. He was a member of the Masonic Order & the Veravah Club. He was a Lower Allen Judge of Elections. He served in the US Air Force teaching jet mechanics & safety. A life-long car enthusiast, he started working for LB Smith after the service. Soon after that he joined, his friend, Dave Latsha, in Foreign Motors on Cameron St. In 1963, he and a partner opened Imported Auto Parts in Harrisburg, which he owned & operated for 25 years. He finished his career with Heinz Automotive. He loved driving & racing cars & was a charter member & past president of the Appalachian Sports Car Club, organizer of the Hershey Hillclimb, a state hill climb champion & winner of a national go cart championship. He also loved golf, had a hole in one & played St. Andrews in Scotland. He & Rita Mae spent their winters in Florida. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be at Musselman Funeral Home, 324 Hummel Ave. in Lemoyne on Wednesday, July 26 at 9:30 am followed by a service at 10:30am & internment at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
