Richard W. Eckert

December 12, 1920 - October 3, 2017

Richard W. Eckert 96; of Camp Hill passed away on October 3, 2017 at his residence. He was born on December 20, 1920 in Wyomissing, PA. He was predeceased by his loving wife Joan I. Eckert and was a son to the late Norman H. and Margaret E.(Hafer) Eckert. Richard was retired from the former Bell Telephone Co. as a project Engineer. He was a Captain in the United States Army Air Corps and was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross serving in the India, Burma, China campaign during WWII. He was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Camp Hill serving as an usher and on many church committees. He was a member of the Camp Hill Lions Club and most of all he cherished his time spent with his family during gatherings and family trips. Richard was known as the family handyman; being able to fix most anything. Surviving are his children J. Richard Eckert and wife Kathryn of Susquehanna Twp., Deborah A. Meyers of Camp Hill, grandchildren, Anne, Emily, Andrew Eckert, Nicholas Meyers, great grandchildren, Trent, Rozzlynn, and Drake Meyers. In addition to his wife and parents he is predeceased by brothers Bruce and Daniel. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2107 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Camp Hill. A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at the church. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, PA. Donations may be made in his memory to his Church; 2000 Chestnut Street Camp Hill PA. 17011.
