Betty E. Butler

Hers was a life well lived. Born February 1929 in the small farming community of Oregon, MO, she was the only surviving daughter of four born to Leo and Mary Sommer. Betty moved with her family to St. Joseph, MO as a teenager. It was there she met the love of her life, Robert G. “Bob” Butler during their high school years together. Betty and Bob started their married life together in 1947 and made a good life for themselves and their 4 daughters, making the most of moves from Missouri to other states including Illinois, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and back to Pennsylvania. Their marriage endured for 62 years until Bob’s death in 2009. All her life Betty was quick to make friends, join church and get involved in whatever community she found herself, maintaining close ties to Missouri family members as well as dear friends that became like family from every stage of her life. She and Bob worked hard to raise their daughters well, setting an example of balancing family and work schedules with community service and many fun pastimes. Betty was a dedicated long time member of Christ Presbyterian Church, serving and volunteering in many ways including starting the church’s shawl ministry knitting with a group of dear friends. Betty enjoyed staying active, playing bridge, traveling, and socializing. She was a 70 year member of PEO, supporting education for young women. Betty’s true joy in life was spending time with family, especially at her beach house in the NC Outer Banks, but also on trips and vacations far and wide and annual gatherings at her Camp Hill home for holidays. Betty was the best Mom to Natalie B. Miller, Robyn B. Krohn, Terri B. Davis and Shelley B. Barlow. Mother-in-law and friend to Andrew Headden, Eric Krohn, Ralph Davis and Joseph Barlow. Proud Grandma to Adam Miller (Mindy), Kyle Miller (Uka), Chelsey Williams (Will), Shawn Davis (Amber), Dana Kichline (Matt), Brett Davis (Jonae) Carrie Krohn (Robert). Adoring great grandmother (GG) to Tommy, Annabel, Sommer, Asher, Bodhi, Blythe, Luke, Jake, Grace, Trevor, Parker, Owen, Leo, and like a mother and grandmother to so many more. A celebration of life for Betty will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Christ Presbyterian Church, (Allendale) 421 Deerfield Road, Camp Hill with Pastor Lynn Miller officiating. The service will begin at 2pm, preceded by a visitation with the family beginning at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Christ Presbyterian Church Forever Fund.
