Charley W. Sawyer

If you knew Charley W. Sawyer, you called him Chatz. He was born into the Sawyer brood on September 21, 1942, right before his father, Charles E. Sawyer went to serve his country in WWII. Chatz stayed with his mother, Mary, and for his first few years, he always carried around a caricature of his father until he returned from war. Eventually, the family moved to Virginia where Chatz was the star football player and graduate of Randolph Macon Military Academy. He became a highly trained elevator technician and was a 35-year member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. He was a great advocate for continuing to give back and therefore not only taught courses in elevators, but also instructed future Masons of Masonic Lodge No. 458. Additionally, Chatz provided inspiration and coaching of all sports including girls’ softball and basketball and was involved with the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Leader. If Chatz did something, he did it the best his ability by putting forth effort, commitment and lots and lots of practice. He was a member of the Fairview Hunting Club in Ralston, PA, where his buck continues to hold the highest score on the Boone and Crockett scale. He continued his dedication and excellent focus in becoming a nationally ranked steel tip dart player, winner of multiple tournaments in horseshoes, solving insanity levels of Sudoku puzzles and growing the best tasting tomatoes. He was also a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Enola Sportsmen’s Association, the Mechanicsburg Club, and alifetime member of the NRA. In addition to his parents, he was greeted into heaven on April 10, 2022 by his beloved daughter, Major Becky Sawyer. He will be forever missed but never forgotten by his “true north” and wife Sheila; his hunting partner and son, Charley M. Sawyer; his favorite baker and daughter Dr. Holly Sawyer along with her husband John Merenich; his brother and his wife, Larry and Linda Sawyer; and numerous cousins and friends. Our family chain is broken but we will see you again and our chain will be whole once more. We love you! Services will be Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 11:00 am at Musselman’s Funeral Home, 324 Hummel Avenue, Lemoyne, PA. There will be a public visitation from 10-11:00am. Burial will take place at Rolling Green Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 4685 Mt. Zion Drive, Enola, PA 17025. MUSSELMAN
