Joanne L. Hood

Joanne Louise Hood, age 94, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, went home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of family. Joanne was born on December 30, 1931 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John F. and Mabel (Thompson) Chilcote. She was a 1949 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School. On September 2, 1949 she married Harold L. Hood. Joanne worked as a bank teller at Harris Bank in Lemoyne. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, her infant son David Jonathan and three sisters: June Miess, Verlee Miess and Nora Coffman. She is survived by three sons: Stephen and wife Nancy; Randall and wife Cindy; Brian and wife Penny, 9 grandchildren: Holly and husband John; Trevor and wife Dawn; Haven; Brandon and wife Cordy; Joshua and wife Lindsay; Mitchell; Zachary; Jesse and wife Anna; Gabriel, 13 great-grandchildren, two sisters: Carrie Kronbach and Vonnie Swope and husband Donald, and many adoring nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Joanne was a member of West Shore Free Church for 50 years. She was a member of the original Awesome Adventure (children’s program) prayer team, an active member of the Bereans class and a mentor to younger women in the church as well as to many friends and family members. She was a prayer warrior for her family, her church and many people around the world. She was a very good cook and showed hospitality to many. Joanne loved books, crossword puzzles and chocolate and thought every day should include some of each. She also loved taking vacations with her family, visiting lighthouses and walking on the beach. She took great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She laughed easily, even at herself, and brought much joy to others. Her greatest love was Jesus whom she served faithfully throughout her life. She loved to talk to Him, memorize His Word, share Him with others and sing songs of praise to Him. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 6 at Musselman Funeral Home, 324 Hummel Ave, Lemoyne. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 14 at West Shore Free Church, 1345 Williams Grove Rd, Mechanicsburg, Pastor Ian Campbell officiating. Friends will be received prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will be at McConnellstown Cemetery.
